IMPHAL: Several persons have been arrested during the 'mass court arrest programme' launched by major social organisation Apunba Lup (AL) in Manipur demanding resignation of Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh over the killing of a youth by police commandos in a fake encounter, official sources said today.
Sources said several persons were detained under different police stations of Lamlai, Lamsang, Porompat, Imphal, Heingang and others in Imphal East and Imphal West district of Manipur during the mass court arrest programme yesterday.
They said hundreds of people thronged these police stations and launched mass court arrest programme protesting against the killing of Chungkham Sanjit by commandos on July 23 last at Imphal market complex and demanding resignation of Ibobi Singh on moral grounds.
A spokesman of the AL said they would continue the programme today and added that they would launch a series of agitations to press their demands which included termination of service of commandos involved in the July 23 incident and strict action against senior police officials responsible for the deployment of commandos.
