Imphal, Aug 25 (PTI) Terming Ibobi Singh as an "irresponsible chief minister", Manipur People's Party (MPP) has demanded his removal over an alleged fake encounter of a youth by police in the state last month.

The largest regional outfit has requested UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi to remove the Chief Minister. "A report was sent to Gandhi on the prevailing situation arising out of July 23 incident in which Chungkham Sanjit was killed by commandos in a fake encounter and subsequent widespread agitation by various social organisations in the state," MPP president Nimaichand Luwang said in a statement yesterday.

Seeking intervention at this hour of crisis in Manipur, Luwang termed Singh as an "irresponsible chief minister" and requested Gandhi appoint another Congress MLA in his place to restore normalcy in the state.

The MPP president also accused Singh of misleading the Assembly that the youth was killed in an encounter.
