IMPHAL, Dec 25 : The Senior Citizens for Society, Manipur expressed deep concerns at learning the mindless killing of two innocent migrant workers by unknown assailants on December 16 at Thangmeiband Muchikhul, Imphal.
According to a statement of the society, the total number of migrant workers killed since February this year has reached 27.
Such inhuman killings are fraught with dangerous ramifications, it said.
The failure of the law enforcing agency to protect the lives of innocent daily wage earners is unfortunate, it said.
The senior citizen fervently appealed to the government to take all necessary measures to protect the lives of innocent people and restore rule of law in the trouble-torn state.
The society also strongly appealed to the perpetrators of such inhuman acts to desist from further killing of innocent people in the interest of all concerned and humanity of large.
The society in a separate released expressed its deep sense of sorrow at the untimely demise of Prof. N Sanajaoba, former Dean of Law faculty, Guwahati University on December 13.
He was a well known Academician, a noted writer, a selfless social worker and human rights activitist of Manipur.
The release further mentioned that his untimely death is a great loss to the people of Manipur.
