Imphal, Oct 12 : The state government has taken a decision to compensate for the countless damages and losses caused to crops and properties in the recent flood in the southern part of the valley caused by unseasonal incessant rain in the past few days.
The decision was taken up during a joint sitting of concerned MLAs whose constituencies have been effected seriously by the recent floods, and was chaired by the chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh at his official Bungalow yesterday.
An official source said that the joined meeting was also attended by MLA, L Nandakumar of Uripok A/C, MLA, Dr Kh Loken Singh of Sagolband A/C, chairman (PDA), MLA Bijoy Koijam, of Thongju A/C, Deputy Chairman of (STB), MLA E Suraj Singh of Yaiskul A/C, PC Lawmkunga, Addl. CS, Ram Muivah, Principal Secy Works, i/c Relief, P Vaiphei, Commissioner (CAF &PD) T Sitlhou, DC Bishnupur, , RK Dinesh, DC Thoubal, K Radhakumar Singh DC Imphal West, M Lakshmikumar Singh, DC Imphal East, SL Lunneilal, Deputy Secy Relief, Md Abdus Salam, ADM Imphal East and Sumant Singh, Secy to Chief minister.
The source further mentioned that the chief minister who presided over the meeting yesterday has announced an immediate relief package of 5500 quintals of rice and Rs. 10 lakhs in cash to be distributed all flood affected families of the four valley districts.
All DCs of the four valley district namely Imphal West, Imphal East, Thoubal and Bishnupur districts who were present in the very official emergency meeting yesterday have submitted their preliminary reports on the flood situation for consideration, the official source added.
The official source further said that soon after the meeting, and after taking into consideration of the DCs’ reports the state government has started providing 1700 Qtls of rice to the recorded 17000 affected households in Imphal West district, 1800 Qtls of rice to the 18000 affected households in Imphal East, 1000 Qtls of rice to the 10,000 affected households in Thoubal district and 1000 Qtls of rice to the 10,000 affected families of Bishnupur district at the rate of Rs 10 per kg of rice per household.
The emegency meeting also advised the commissioner (CAF&PD) to provide 5500 quintals of rice immediately to the DCs, Commissioner (Relief and Disaster) and was also advised to provide the required amount to meet the cost of rice as well as transportation cost.
The official source further mentioned that the meeting also approved an amount of Rs 10 lakhs at the rate of Rs 2.50 lakhs to each of the valley districts will be provided in cash to DCs to provide other necessities like dal and salt etc.
Further, one tanker each of SK Oil will be provided to the four districts through DCs to distribute to the affected families. Relief shall be distributed by the DCs through the SDOs after proper verification, the official said.
Finally the state emergency meeting yesterday has decided that further relief may be considered after reciept of final reports of demages of households etc from the respective DCs, the official source added.
In the meantime, flood situation in the greater Imphal areas has tremendously improved. However the flood water have now begun accumulating in the southern portions of the valley districts and is now creating a new serious flood situations in the greneral areas of Bishnupur districts and adjoing village in between Imphal West and Thoubal district in the villages of Wabagai Hiyanglam, Wangoi and some portion of Imphal east at present and the official of state IFCD have started concentrations for fighting the arising flood situations into this areas the official source added.
