IMPHAL, Nov 24 – Communist Party of India (CPI) has urged the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to look into the alleged disappearance of Manipur’s insurgent leader and reveal his whereabouts at the earliest.
“Our party leader AB Bardhan has written a letter to Prime Minister today in this regard”, said Dr M Nara, a senior CPI leader in Manipur who was assigned to apprise State’s political situation in the wake of confusion over the arrest of banned United National Liberation Front (UNLF) chairman RK Meghen, to the party’s central office in New Delhi.
The report of arrest was also forwarded to CPI’s Bangladesh counterpart and the party is expecting a feedback within a day or two, Dr Nara, who arrived back here on Saturday said. Besides Communist parliamentarians D Raja and Gurudas Dasgupta have been urged to raise the issue in the Parliament.
CPI General Secretary AB Bardhan’s letter to PM which was made available here said, “It will be in the fitness of things if the Prime Minister personally looks into this matter and reveals his arrest and make his whereabouts known to public at the earliest”.
“Failing to do so would give rise to all sorts of apprehensions and fuel turmoil in the State”, it said. “The situation has come to such an impasse where Indian as well as the Bangladeshi authorities are neither denying nor confirming the arrest of RK Meghen.”
Whereabouts of Meghen has remained a mystery after being reportedly arrested by a combined team of Research and Analysis Wing and Bangladesh Intelligence from Lalmatia area under Mohammadpur Police Station in Dhaka on September 29 last.
Wife of Meghen, Ibemnungshi had also recently written to Prime Minister requesting him to direct the authorities concerned to produce her husband. Meanwhile, sit in demonstration demanding revelation of Meghen’s whereabouts continue to be staged in Manipur.
