Imphal, Dec 1 : In a successful operation, troops of 5 AR, under the aegis of Red Shield Division recovered approximately 3,500 kgs of grade-I ganja from the Manipur-Nagaland boundary near Mao Gate in Senapati district today. A TATA vehicle and a white Maruti gypsy involved in the ganja peddling have also been recovered in the operation.
Troops of 5 Assam Rifles, acting on specific information, launched a well-planned search operation, intercepted the said vehicle inside the state boundary and recovered about 3,500 kgs of compressed ganja being smuggled into Nagaland.
The ganja was being transported in a vehicle escorted by the white gypsy.
The occupants of the vehicles, however, managed to flee the spot on seeing the troops. The recovered ganja was handed over to the Regional Director NE, Narcotics Cont Bureau (NCB) at Imphal for further disposal.
As per the official cost quoted by the NCB, the ganja recovered in this operation is worth Rs one crore five lakhs in the Indian market.
The successful operations by the SF against ganja smuggling in Senapati District has dealt a severe blow to the drug peddlers according to PIB (Defence Wing) sources.
The security forces are undertaking focused operations to minimise drug menace in the region.
