MARGAO: Concerns over some Manipur residents staying in an allegedly illegal building at Utorda were voiced at the gram sabha of the Majorda village panchayat held on Sunday.
The matter was brought to the fore by one of the panchayat members who complained that twelve Manipuri residents were found staying in the building, following which a stormy debate ensued over the issue.
Village sarpanch Visitation D'Silva told reporters later that she would soon write to the police to verify the antecedents of the Manipuri residents. An inspection of the building will be conducted shortly by the panchayat to verify if the building is legal or otherwise, she said. A resolution to regularize the renovation work of a "balwadi" in the village was also adopted by the gram sabha.
The sarpanch brought to the notice of the gram sabha the ongoing construction of an overhead water tank by the public works department (PWD) that will cater to the needs of the drinking water of 100 residents of the village. Several other development issues were also taken up at the gram sabha.
