Imphal, Jan 22 (PTI) Security was tightened across Manipur today in view of the boycott of Republic Day celebrations by militant outfits.
Official sources said all police and security posts were asked to step up patrolling and frisking of passersby to detect movement of ultras following explosion of a powerful bomb at Mongsangei in Imphal West district on Thursday night to disrupt the celebrations.
Police were deployed at various vulnerable places fearing militant attack.
The sources said random checking of people would be intensified and patrolling conducted at various places in the outskirts of Imphal town to prevent sneaking in of militants.
All insurgent and militant outfits in Manipur have called for boycott of Republic Day celebrations as in other years.
More than 25 insurgent and militant organisations operate in Manipur either demanding secession or smaller states along ethnic lines.
