Imphal, June 25 : Manipur thrashed Bihar by 12 runs in the inaugural match of the 8th East Zone Baseball Championship at Khuman Lampak sports complex.
Teams from Bihar, Assam and Manipur are participating in the championship, organised by the Manipur Amateur Baseball Association. Assam and Manipur are also fielding girl’s teams in the meet, which will be played till Saturday.
Manipur had a relatively easy first game
In the first innings, Manipur scored six runs with M. Raju Singh, N. Prem Singh, Trigular Singh, Nongthang Singh, Kumar Singh and Ranjit Singh contributing a run each, while Bihar could not get the scoreboard ticking.
Later in the second innings, Manipur flourished with the bat and some tidy running as Raju Singh, Prem Singh, Nonthang Singh, Ranjit Singh, Lalit Singh and Ramesh Singh fetched a run each to take 12-0 runs to beat Bihar.
M. Raju Singh hit two homers while N. Prem Singh hits one homer for Manipur.
In the last edition in Guwahati, the Manipur boys ended as the runners-up after Orissa while the Manipur girls won the champion’s title.
Dronacharya Awardee boxing coach N. Ibomcha Singh graced the inaugural function of the three-day event.
