IMPHAL: The All Manipur Christian Organization ( Amco) has appealed to the SHDDC and UNC, which are currently imposing economic blockade on national highways passing through the troubled state, to call off their agitation keeping in mind the sufferings of the state's people.

In pursuit of its decades old demand to upgrade Sadar Hills in Senapati to a full-fledged district, the Sadar Hills District Demand Committee (SHDDC) has been imposing economic blockadsd on NH-39 and NH-553 since August 1. On the other hand, the United Naga Council (UNC), which is up in arms against the state government's alleged attempt to bifurcate the Naga-dominated areas and create new districts in Manipur, has called a similar stir on the highways, including NH-150.

"The people of the state have suffered a lot because of the ongoing economic blockade. We appeal to the SHDDC and UNC to reconsider their stance and withdraw the blockade as soon as possible," Rev. S Prim Vaiphei, president of the apex Christian body of the state, said in a statement.
