Church leaders along with people in Manipur’s Churachandpur district
deliberated on the prevailing crime situation arising out of misuse of modern
technologies such as internet, mobile phone and pagers.
“Attending members openly shared their findings and gave suggestions on the
prevailing situation of rising crime rate in and around the district”, said a
press communiqué of Zomi Human Rights Foundation ’s (ZHRF) Information and
Publicity Department.
It said the most pertinent issues within the discussion were abuse of
technology such as internet, mobile, and pagers.
The theme of the September 18 discussion was “Ethical Issues relating to
current social issue” of the indigenous tribal people.
It was held at Central Lamka Church at Churachandpur, a Kuki-Chin-Mizo
dominated south-western district of the state, under the aegis of Evangelical
Baptist Convention Church, Central Lamka and ZHRF.
Participants expressed the need to have mass participation to fight against
the sexual crime, abuse of information technology.
“We’re sensitizing the issue to create awareness about abuse of technologies
to public at large,” the statement said.
