IMPHAL: A pressure group has announced to launch a series of agitations from November 15 if the Manipur government fails to comply with its demand to upgrade the remote Tongjei Marin area to a full-fledged district.

The stir plan of the group, called Tongjei Marin Distict Demand Committee (TMDDC), comes amid the intensified economic blockade imposed on two national highways of the state by the United Naga Council (UNC) to denounce the state government's alleged attempt to slice Naga-dominated areas to create new districts.

Abon Kamei, the convener of TMDDC, said they had submitted memorandums to the state government for creation of Tongjei Marin district.

"Since the government has failed to upgrade Tongjei Marin to a new district, the TMDDC has decided to launch an agitation from November 15," a statement of the committee said.

On the other hand, nearly 150 loaded fuel tankers and LPG carriers reached Imphal under heavy security cover along National Highway 37, connecting the state capital and Silchar, on Tuesday giving a breather to people.
