After an inner party crisis in Uttarakhand, the first hint of dissension has appeared in the Manipur state Congress too with the Kuki-Zomi tribe seeking the deputy CM berth. “There has been no CM or deputy CM from the Kuki-Zomi tribe, in spite of it having the senior-most Congress MLA in
Manipur in Phungzathang Tonsing. This time we won’t rest till the deputy CM berth is given to a Kuki-Zomi,” said a party source from the Kuki community.
Meanwhile, the government is reported to be contemplating state party chief Gaikhangam, a Naga, for the deputy CM’s post. CM Ibobi Singh, Tonsing and Gaikhangam are in Delhi hoping for party chief Sonia Gandhi’s intervention.
