LEIMAKHONG (MANIPUR), June 12 – The army is prepared to tackle any situation along the Indo-Myanmar border in the event of any infiltration of insurgents from Myanmar, said Maj Gen Binoy Poonnem, GOC, 57 Mountain Division.
He was replying to question by media persons at a community hall inauguration near Leimakhong army headquarters, 20 km north of Imphal recently.
“We have sealed the border. But it is very encouraging that the Myanmar authority have decided to put a stop to militant camps – we will wait and see,” the Army officer said reacting to a question on the Myanmar Government’s June 10 deadline for Manipur-based militant outfits to shut their camps on its soil.
“…Whether that happens or not, we are fully aware of it and fully prepared for it. In case there is any infiltration of insurgents, we will deal with it,” the General added.
The IG of Assam Rifles (South) Maj Gen UK Gurung had few days back stated that the Assam Rifles troops are “vigilant” across the International border between India and Myanmar. “We are taking every precautionary step so that the militants cannot sneak back to our side,” he claimed.
Earlier, the GOC inaugurated a Rs 5 lakh worth community hall at NC Phai village in Senapati district.
