In view to reform prisoners including insurgents serving their term, the
Manipur Central Jail authorities have set up a library for its inmates
and appealed to general public to donate books.
Official sources said the library, initiated and set up under
the guidance of the Additional Director General of Police (Jail) M K
Das, would function as a correctional aid for the jail inmates whose
background varied from looters, criminals, gangsters to insurgents.
Authorities of the Manipur Central Jail, the biggest of its
kind in the state, have appealed to the general public to donate reading
materials and books including books on religion, inspiration, general
knowledge, magazines etc, sources said adding that these would help
reform the prisoners and lead a normal life after their tenure.
The donors may directly send the reading materials to the jail at Sajiwa on the outskirts of Imphal, sources said.
