Over 60 non-locals were barred from entering Manipur without valid documents by the joint committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) during the five-day campaign demanding introduction of inner line permit system in Manipur.

JCILPS commenced its five day campaign checking entry of “outsiders” into the state from June 1 last and during the last five days, volunteers of the JCILPS have pushed back over 60 non-locals from entering into Manipur without valid documents, convener of the JCILPS Students’ Wing M Angamba Meitei told media persons Wednesday.

On the last day of the first phase of the agitation, volunteers comprising AMSU, DESAM, KSA, SUK, AMMSO and AIMS in association with volunteers of Sekmai Protection Committee conducted checking on vehicles coming towards Imphal from Dimapur side at Sekmai along the Imphal-Moa section of NH-2.

In the checking around 40 non-locals, were found without possessing valid documents. They were forced to return back to Dimapur by the volunteers.

While the checking was in progress, a team of Sekmai Police led by officer in charge AK Premanda intervened and asked the volunteers to stop checking, which resulted in a heated argument between the volunteers and police personnel.

Even though police dispersed, the volunteers gathered again at Luwangshangbam area along the same highway and resumed the checking.
