IMPHAL: With the primary aim to restructure the state police, Manipur deputy chief minister Gaikhangam will embark on a new mission to take the opinions and suggestions of lower-ranking officers in the force. Gaikhangam, who is also the home minister, said that he will visit SP offices and battalion headquarters of other state police forces.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the passing-out parade of 857 women police constables of the eighth batch of the state police department on Thursday, Gaikhangam said his proposed campaign would reshape the police force to a certain extent. The parade was held at the Manipur Police Training College at Pangei.

A few days ago, Gaikhangam had convened a meeting in Imphal with high-ranking police officers to discuss the matter.

Gaikhangam, who was the chief guest at the programme, said traffic police are more or less functioning under the state transport department, which is not the case anywhere else in the country. He said he would take up necessary measures to create an SP's post in the traffic police department, which, at present, is headed by a DSP.
