BJP president Rajnath Singh has written to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh asking him to immediately stop fencing work along Manipur-Myanmar border as it would lead to diversion of some portion of the land to the neighbouring country.

The BJP state unit had  in October conducted spot survey of the disputed and unmarked area and found that  four kilometre of border fencing inside Yangoupokpi-Lokchao wildlife sanctuary had led to surrendering of huge area to Myanmar.

Moreover, the wildlife sanctuary was one of the most sensitive bio-diversity spot in the world.

In his letter written on December 1, the BJP chief demanded re-demarcation of unsettled portion of boundary line along the Manipur section. The BJP had said that this exercise should be carried out with the help of people from both the countries. Rajnath demanded constitution of a committee comprising officials from the Home Ministry and the state government to carry out work of naming the border pillars, landmarks and water divides so that people could know what belongs to the country.
