The opening event was presided over by Manipur Health Minister Phungzathang Tonsing along with Principle Secretary Dr Suhel Akhtar as guest of honour and president of the function respectively.
The programme has been launched under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM) scheme and will continue till August 8.
During the first week of the programme, i.e. from 28th July to 2nd of August, ORS (Oral rehydration solution) will be distributed to each household having children under the age of 5 years.
During the second week of programme, emphasis will be given on infant and young child feeding, growth monitoring by ASHA and Anganwdi workers, counselling on early initiation to breastfeeding, detection of undernourished children, setting up of IYCF ( infant and young child feeding) and counselling sites, referral and medical management of under nourished children, etc.
Principal Secretary of Health and Family Welfare Dr. Suhel Akhtar, Director of Family Welfare Dr. Okram Ibomcha, who is also the Director of State Mission NRHM; Director of Health Services Dr. A Bijoy and Medical Superintendent of JNIMS Hospital Dr W Gopimohan were also present on the occasion.
