The Thadou Students' Association (TSA) is going to call a 72-hour general strike in Manipur from midnight of Sunday if the commanding officer of 7 Indian Reserve Battalion does not personally come and make inquiries into the injuries suffered by six persons who were travelling in a car.

It is alleged that the cavalcade of the commanding officer had dashed the car on June 16 morning along the national highway at Koirengei.

The TSA says that the commanding officer, Chaoba Lokho and his entourage went away without even halting to make inquiries after the accident.

Talking to reporters in Imphal on Wednesday James Haokip, general secretary of the TSA said that the commanding officer has not even made the perfunctory inquiries through telephone notwithstanding the fact that the TSA had called a localised strike in protest.

The functionaries of the TSA also submitted a memorandum to the Home Minister's office on Wednesday demanding appropriate actions against the commanding officer. The Home Minister Gaikhangam Gangmei is now in New Delhi.

Life was brought to a standstill in Chandel district and the legalised border trade was disrupted when the TSA called a strike in the district in protest against this accident. There was no response from the Home Minister or the commanding officer. The injured six persons are said to be recuperating in a hospital and they are now footing the medical bills on their own.
