IMPHAL,
Sept 11 – Full State honours was given here today to slain police
commando Thotyo Keishing, who was killed in an ambush by suspected
NSCN-IM cadres near Lower Hundung, in Ukhrul district.
The mortal remains of the slain commando Keishing of Riha Village wrapped in the Indian tricolour was brought to 1st battalion
Manipur Rifles complex here where Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi
Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, other Ministers and top
police officials laid wreaths on the coffin of the departed
soul. Besides a gun salute by a contingent of the 1st MR personnel, a
two-minute silence was also observed during the programme which was
attended by family members of the departed police personnel.
Later, Ibobi told media persons of the government decided to thin out the State forces with the improvement of the situation in Ukhrul. The government is closely monitoring the situation in Ukhrul town, he said.
The State Government had deployed around 400-500 police commando, Manipur Rifles and Indian Reserve Battalion
personnel in Ukhrul district headquarters a day after the killing of
ADC member Ngalangzar Malue on July 12 this year. Prohibitory orders
were also imposed under Section 144 CrPC in the hill town. But the
prohibitory orders were withdrawn on September 7. Yesterday’s ambushes
occurred when the State police forces were returning to Imphal.
