Churachandpur, Mar 29 : The 27th Sector Assam Rifles organised a one-day rally for ex-servicemen of Churachandpur at Peace Ground Tuiboung yesterday. The rally was organised in association with 12th Madras regiment.
At the rally, about 400 ex-servicemen from Churachandpur participated including the widows of ex-servicemen.
Brigadier Sorabhjeet Singh, station commander from Leimakhong, attended the occasion as chief guest.
Other dignitaries present at the occasion were Rajivpan, brigadier 27th Sector AR, K Loganathan, CO 12th Madras Regiment, Col. Ranjit Singh apart from others.
Brig Sourabhjeet Singh said the ex-servicemen had rendered many good services for the country besides the promotion of peace and harmony. There are many ex-servicemen in Churachandpur but the ex-servicemen’s problems of this place were different from those of the problems faced by other ex-servicemen in other parts of the country.
While regretting the ineffectice functioning of Zilla Sainik Board which is supposed to look after the problems of ex-servicemen towards providing ration and CSD canteen facilities regularly.
Singh said their problems would be addressed and looked into at the Governor and the chief minister level. Today, the stall had been opened so as to address the problems of ex-servicemen. He said these kind of stalls had not been opened since the last two years though it was supposed to be done once every year. He said poly-clinic facilities would be opened soon and through it proper medical facilities would be provided to the ex-servicemen here.
At the rally about seven stalls were opened. In Churachandpur there are 1925 ex-servicemen out of which 384 only were enrolled into the ex-servicemen league. If they are registered, they will get facilities as per the EGC norms.
Earlier, Singh distributed shawls to the widows of the ex-servicemen.
