Imphal, Oct. 31 : The UN Working Group on Enforced or Involuntary Disappearance is likely to take up the case of Sana Yaima, chairman of the United National Liberation Front (UNLF). Yaima’s whereabouts are not known since his reported arrest in Dhaka last month.

Sources said the UN body sought detailed information of the case from Yaima’s family with the assurance that it would follow up the matter.

Yaima’s family later confirmed this.

The family filled up a form by the UN body and sent it on October 27. The UN body sought details of the case after Yaima’s wife, R.K. Ongbi Ibemnungshi, submitted a petition to the UN body seeking help in her husband’s case.

In a brief interaction with the family, the UN body confirmed receiving the petition and directed the family to fill up the form and send it back so that it could take up the matter at the earliest.

Media reports said Yaima was arrested in Dhaka. The UNLF also made the same claim. However, Union home secretary G.K. Pillai denied the report.
