Police claim breakthrough in non-local killings

Imphal, Sep 25 : Manipur Police today claimed that the proscribed People s Liberation Army (PLA) was involved in the killings of two non-locals on Sepember 17 and 18. Police also nabbed 10 militants including two allegedly involved in the killings of the non-locals during the last 24 hours. Superintendent of Police, Imphal West L Kailun today said two non- locals were shot dead and the police took up stringent security measures and provided maximum security to the non-local migrant workers. They were kept at Dharmashala and the district administration provided food and other essential items. Police yesterday nabbed one Wahengbam Haridev and he revealed that the killings were done by Gurumayum Nimaichand Sharma and the weapon for crime was handed over to one Nityaichandra Pal. Pal was picked up a 9 mm pistol (Mauser-Werke) with magazine and nine live rounds was recovered. Gurumayum Nimaichand Sharma was apprehended today and he admitted to have committed both the crimes. The SP further said last evening Imphal West District police commandos arrested two PLA cadres. In another incident, Imphal West police and 18 Sikh Li nabbed five cadres of banned Kangleipak Communist Party (KCP) from Hiyangthang. Two AK-56 Assault Rifles with 110 live rounds, nine Chinese hand grenades and two vehicles were seized.
