PATIALA: World champion Sarjubala Devi of Manipur stormed into the second round of the light flyweight category at the Youth and Junior Women's National boxing championship which got underway on Saturday.
Sarjubala defeated Zothanpull Mizoram in her opening bout.
Apart from Sarjubala, Priya Gorh of Assam and Haryana's Saroj also booked their place in the second round of the championship, registering easy victories over their respective opponents.
In the lightweight category, three-time junior National champion Poonam from Haryana upstaged Tanuja Kanyal of Uttarakhand in the first round.
In the light flyweight division and flyweight division of the junior event, world Champion Lalenkawli (48kg) of Mizoram advanced to the next round with a resounding victory over Kalawati.
The championships, which will conclude on September 29, will feature altogether 249 boxers from 43 state and institutional teams.
While 113 pugilists from 22 teams will battle for the national title in the junior championship, 136 boxers from 21 states will vie for glory at the youth event.
