IMPHAL, Sep 1 – A two-day workshop on ‘Manipur in India’s Look East Policy’ which was held under the aegis of Manipur Chamber of Foreign Trade and Industry (Macfi) in association with Manipur Update concluded here today.

Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam inaugurated the workshop yesterday in the presence of State Commerce and Industries Minister Gobindas Konthoujam and Macfi president P Loken. Speaking on the occasion, the Deputy Chief Minister called upon the people of Manipur to prepare for the Look East Policy. “Otherwise, who knows we may become refugees in our own land”, Gaikhangam cautioned.

He, however, appreciated the organisers for holding such a workshop at the right juncture in the interest of the general population of the State as it will help to create awareness on the government policies.

Commerce and Industries Minister Govindas Konthoujam highlighted the development activities undertaken by the State Government in connection with the government policy to develop the State. Trade experts, entrepreneurs, businessmen, academicians, and others attended the inaugural function.

In the technical session of the workshop Dr E Bijoy, Dean of Social Sciences, Manipur University spoke on foreign trade and its classification and the advantages of Manipur in India’s Look East Policy (LEP) which was followed by a 30-minute discussion on the issue.
